Media Hijinks - Recycling, Horror and Diesel Dollars

‘Westworld’ goes to TV, Vin Diesel goes broke and awesomeness comes to Universal Orlando

First up on the Media Hijinks agenda, another Hollywood recycling project.  This time around, it looks like the powers-that-be want to take the old Westwood flick and convert it into a television series.  In case you missed Westworld (and you should not have!), it’s a movie about a western-themed park filled with robots that go crazy and start killing people.  And before you panic, let it be known that the people in charge of this new project are Jonathan Nolan and none other than J.J. Abrams.  Plus, it’s to be aired on HBO, so it will have all the blood, violence and boobies that you could dream of.  With that sort of set-up, I’m actually interested to see what comes of this.

And in news of a different sort, a brief bit about the upcoming third film in the Riddick trilogy, the same-titled Riddick.  It looks like the movie had its fair share of money problems during filming and the star himself ended up putting up a sizable chunk of money to keep the thing going.  Will Vin Diesel make his money back on this?  Probably, but it’s still a pretty awesome gesture for a star to do something like that.  You can read more about that at this site.

Third up, more fun stuff for people that happen to live in or about Orlando, Florida.  Universal Orlando has added even more to its already overflowing-with-goodness Halloween Horror Nights in October.  I already chatted once about the Cabin in the Woods set they made.  Now Resident Evil is getting added to the mix with its own haunted house.  Also, there’s apparently a Walking Dead haunted house going in as well.  This is beginning to sound like the theme park that I have always dreamed about.  Dammit, Florida, why do you have to be so far away from me?

And finally, this, because it is awesome:
