September 8 is Grandparent’s Day
Grandparents’ Day is just around the corner. Do you have any plans with your family? Here are a few ideas if you need something to get you started.
Spend the day with a grandparent. Ask him or her to tell you stories about growing up, traveling and your family. Take notes, then make something to commemorate the stories—whether it’s a family tree, a shadowbox with mementos or a framed photograph.
Take your grandparent on an adventure. Travel somewhere new or try something daring, like a zip line ride or a rollercoaster trip. Defy any old grandparent stereotypes (unless it is unsafe to do so) and go on a big, bold quest for adventure.
Cook together, if your grandparent likes to cook—or go fishing together. Pick one of your grandparent’s hobbies—or ask about a favorite hobby—and share in it together during this special day.
Have little kids make handprints, homemade poems and cards and other memorable gifts to give grandparents this year.
Give a fresh gift, such as flowers or a meal.
Take your grandparent out for the day. See what he or she would love to do—maybe visit a casino with adults, or head to brunch with the entire family? Find out what he or she never gets to do but loves and make it happen.
Send both of your grandparents on an adventure together with a Groupon getaway or some passes for dinner and a movie.
Cook a favorite family recipe from your grandparents’ childhood and bring it over to share.
