Romance and Revenge at the Brooklyn Brainery
Let's be honest... Who among us hasn't wondered if aphrodisiacs really work? Or felt morbidly fascinated by stories of poisoned apples and crafty Shakespearean apothecaries? If you and your friends are looking for some refreshing and deliciously devious entertainment away from your usual haunts this season, bundle up and head down to the Brooklyn Brainery for Romance and Revenge: Aphrodisiacs and Female Poisoners.
Presented by Masters of Social Gastronomy, Romance and Revenge examines the cultural histories of various edibles designed to induce both love and death while sorting fact from fiction using hard science. This enthralling event explores questions like, “Should chocolate really be the Valentine's Day mascot?” and “Why were the Victorians so obsessed with black widows?”
The best part is that this 21+ event is completely free, so you can celebrate girls (or guys!) night in style without breaking your bank. The doors open at seven thirty sharp on January 28th and you don't even have to RSVP to attend.
Romance and Revenge is just one of many free events offered by the Brooklyn Brainery this month. From an in-depth study of New York City's "trashy" history to Art History Happy Hour at the Brooklyn Museum, there truly is something for anyone and everyone hoping to expand their minds while simultaneously having the time of their lives.
