Would you go see a Grumpy Cat movie?
I'm going to tell you right now that Grumpy Cat is my favorite meme of all time. Nothing makes me happier than seeing photos of the most famous sour puss on the planet. Even now, long after Grumpy Cat's 15 minutes of fame have ended, I find myself looking at photos of Tardar Sauce, smiling. I even follow a Grumpy Cat Twitter account. Yeah, I know, I have some issues. I can't help it. And I'm not alone, I know I'm not: Grumpy Cat continues to be a phenomenon. The cat has an agent, for goodness sake!
So, with mixed emotions, I can tell you that a Grumpy Cat movie might actually happen. Deadline Hollywood has the scoop: Apparently, negotiations for a big budget, family-friendly film starring Tard are underway. A major production company is putting together a "package for a Garfield-like feature film" based on everyone's favorite unhappy kitty.
Wow. My first reaction was "Yay! More Grumpy Cat for me!" Then I actually let the information sink in, and I immediately began to worry. I hated the Garfield movie, totally hated it (and I loved the comic). What if they make a craptastical film that ruins one of the greatest memes in the history of memes? It's not hard to take a wonderful thing and drive it straight into the ground, as we all know too well. Hollywood's been smoking too much catnip.
I call on all my fellow Grumpy Cat/Tardar Sauce fans to help me decide: Do we really want a movie starring our favorite meme? And, if this is going to happen regardless of what we all think, who should voice Grumpy Cat? In my head I hear Bill Hader as Stefon, but that's just me. I cannot believe I seriously just admitted that. There's always Tommy Lee Jones as an option...
Yeah, the more I think about this, the more I believe that perhaps Grumpy Cat is best left alone. Kick some kitty litter over it and let it go.
Feel free to disagree, I honestly want to know what you think.
