The Best Romantic Films - Moulin Rouge

Some movies stand above the rest when it comes to being the best in their genre. For the couple that enjoys watching romantic movies, there’s no need to sift through the rubbish to find the gems, for I have done the work for you. This week’s exceptional romantic film is:

Moulin Rouge (2001) - I personally consider this to be the best of director Baz Luhrmann’s films and it is, through and through, a movie about love. When a starving writer, Christian, accidently meets up with a semi-famous actress and courtesan, Satine, the sparks fly. Unfortunately for them both, Satine is going to be married (or sold) off to an investor - The Duke - in exchange for him funding the theater she works at. But that does not stop the pair from indulging in their passion for each other. And when the duke finds out about their love affair, things take a turn for the worse.

Moulin Rouge is a story about overcoming all odds in the pursuit of love. It is a comedy, a musical and a tragedy all rolled into one and it contains some amazing renditions of modern songs placed into a past version of France. If you’re a hopeless romantic that sees love as the most important thing in the entire world, you’ll adore this movie.
