Dates for Animal Lovers
If you and your date are both self-declared animal lovers, there are plenty of ways you can use your love of furry friends as a fun way to spend time together. Here are some ideas for your next—or your first—date with your animal-loving friend.
Meet one another’s pets. If you don’t want to meet at one another’s homes (and who can blame you? You don’t even know each other yet), you can always bring both of your dogs to the dog park and let them run around together while you two talk. If you don’t have a dog, why not bring your cat, ferret, or other pet to the local pet store for a date there? Most welcome them if they are on a leash, and you two can browse and find plenty of topics as you meet one another as well as your pets.
Volunteer together. Head to the nearest pet sanctuary or shelter and see what the two of you can do together for the day. Make sure the volunteers know that you are on a date and you need to do the activities together! Maybe you can walk a few dogs, play with some kitties, or talk as you help clean out cages. Hey, it might not sound sexy to some people, but for big animal lovers it could be a really enjoyable day.
Make animal rescue kits together. This can be a really fun activity. You can always order them from PETA, but making your own is so much easier to do (and much more cost effective). You could even go yard-saling together and collect items for your rescue kits; I once got a pet carrier for only $2 at a garage sale that was in perfect condition. You could even collect things to go donate to your shelter.
Protest something. If you are both vegetarians, or even if you just want to ask a store to go fur-free or a zoo to be nicer to their elephants, you could always join a local protest that’s happening. This might turn some people off, but many animal activists both enjoy these activities as well as consider them meaningful and worthwhile.
Make a birdhouse. You can build a birdhouse, a bat box, a squirrel box, all kinds of things! For a truly simple birdfeeder, simply string some cheerios along a piece of twine or pipe cleaners and hang from trees.
