Valentine Treats
One of the most romantic activities you can do on Valentine’s Day is to cook together or prepare something for someone you are interested in. Spending the time to prepare something indicates a greater level of commitment and interest, for one thing—but it’s also a good get-to-know-you activity where you can talk together as you prepare something, too. Here are some fun Valentine’s treats to make for, or on, your Valentine’s date.
Chocolate Éclair Cake. This cake is so simple to make, though there is chilling time required. All you have to do is alternatively layer graham crackers, a mixture of whipped topping and vanilla pudding (equal parts—14 oz each works well), and chocolate icing until you have a final layer of chocolate icing, then set it in the fridge until firm. It’s cheap, simple, and absolutely decadent.
Valentine Jelly Pops. These will bring out the kid in both of you as you make the sweet jelly confections! Be sure to get all of the ingredients before your date arrives if you plan making them together.
Yummy Love Punch. If you’re going nonalcoholic, try a mixture of Sprite, orange sherbet (or mixed sherbet—the lime can add a great kick!), and Hawaiian Punch. For something a little more adult, try one of these recipes, like Sex on the Beach or a Fuzzy Navel. (I wouldn’t use the penis-shaped shot glass if I were you—unless, of course, you’ve been dating for a while and your date would find it amusing.)
Homemade Fudge. Did you know that you can make a simple fudge in the microwave? Try one of the recipes linked here, or use one of your own.
Pink Icing, or Pink Food Coloring, in Just About Anything. If you aren’t very handy in the kitchen but you still want to make something for the occasion, you could always simply add a bit of red or pink food coloring, or icing, to something store bought or simply made for an extra special touch. Try making a pink boxed cake, for example, and adding heart-shaped sprinkles. Serve it with some strawberries and whipped cream for a fresher touch. Those easy Rice Krispies treats that most of us can make can also be easily dyed or dotted with sprinkles.
Just Serve Fruit. And if you really just can’t NOT burn anything, just buy a bunch of delicious berries and whipped cream and artfully display them on an attractive plate with drinks.
