Four More Ways To Make Money In Sims 3

Of course, after I finished my last article, I spent the entire weekend thinking of other ways you can make money!  The truth is that there are a ton of ways to rake in the Simoleons.  Which is good, because in a world where it costs $11 to make waffles, you'll need it!

1. Writing

All you need to be a writer is a computer - and it doesn't even have to be yours!  I guess Sims write their novels in Google Docs, because if you start a novel on one computer, you can access it on any other computer in town.  Visit the library if you need to use a public (free) computer.

One fun thing about writing is that it's one of the few things you can earn money outside the home.  Buy your Sim a laptop, tuck it into their inventory, then send them out into public!  There are several places where you can have your Sim work on their novel, including the Library and some of the parks (the ones with tables).

The best thing about Writing is that the payment schedule is AWESOME.  As your Sim writes, they submit chapters to their publisher.  This means that you're getting small amounts of money as you write.  Then once you finish the novel, your Sim will earn royalties every Sunday.

Note: Check the skill journal to find the genre that earns your Sim the most money, and focus on that one!

2. Breaking Space Rocks (World Adventures)

If you purchase a Martial Arts Board Breaking Kit (i.e. two surprisingly expensive cinder blocks) in Shang Simla, your Sim can start learning how to break boards.  Once they have mastered all of the other boards, they will finally be able to break Space Rock Boards.  This is spiffy because when your Sim breaks a board made of space rock, there's about a 1 in 5 chance that a gem will pop out.

Note: Many people report that you can get Mysterious Mr. Gnomes from breaking space rocks.  Needless to say I haven't seen this personally, because apparently the gnomes hate me.

3. Theft

How could I overlook such an obvious option?  Give your Sim the "Klepto" trait, then hit the town!  If they are on a lot or in a room alone, you will have the option to "Swipe Something."  Just click on the ground at random, and see if the option appears.

On the down side, your Sim is the one who chooses what to steal.  And often they choose lame stuff that isn't worth much money.  But hey, free money is free money, right?!  You can also furnish your home in a wide variety of municipal accessories like street lamps and sidewalk trash cans.

4. Nectar (World Adventures)

If your Sim loves to garden, then it may be worth a trip to France to buy a Nectar Maker.  This is a huge up front investment, because the things cost $1,500!  But you can tinker with the nectar blends, some of which can be worth big bucks.  I covered nectar in a separate article with more info here.
