The best swimming areas near Houston
When it comes to relaxing at the end of a difficult week, there is no better way to go than to visit a local river or lake and splash around. There are several great swimming holes in Texas if you are willing to make the drive. Here are our picks for the top three best places to swim outdoors near Houston.
If you are simply looking to get out and have a nice swim in the hot summer weather, check out Village Creek. This swimming spot is at the end of a one mile trail, and is located on a sandbar of the eponymous creek.
This beautiful lake has a roped off swimming area, crystal clear water, and a peaceful, woodland setting. But be warned, there are alligators found in the far corners of the lake, and locals advise you not swim at dusk or dawn, in order to avoid any potential confrontations.
Located south of Kerrville, this is a free swimming area on the Guadalupe River. The swimming area features a rope swing, a sandy beach, and some trees to provide shade in summer.
