Guess what? Awards season is underway.

One particular actress stands to have another banner year.

It's hard to believe, but movie awards season is now officially underway. The New York Film Critics Circle Awards are out, and not surprisingly, there are more than a few very familiar names and films as winners. I know that this is just the tip of the iceberg where big awards are concerned, and even though each city's critics tend to band together on these things, it's still worth a post.

Why? Because I love Jennifer Lawrence, that's why. Well, that's one good reason. And Lawrence was named Best Supporting Actress for her work in David O. Russell's crime drama American Hustle. Mark my words: She'll get more nominations and probably many more awards. Right now, Lawrence is truly the darling of cinema critics (and movie goers).

All in all, American Hustle scored very big, taking home the New York Film Critics Circle Awards for Best Film and Best Screenplay as well. That's notable. It certainly indicates that this movie will be in serious Oscar contention in the not-so-distant future. FYI: American Hustle tells the true story of the FBI ABSCAM operation, which led to incredible political scandal. It hits theaters in limited release on December 13 and wide release on December 20, so mark your calendars.

The other big winners of the NY Film Critics Circle Awards included Robert Redford for Best Actor in All is Lost, Cate Blanchett for Best Actress in Woody Allen's Blue Jasmine and Jared Leto as Best Supporting Actor in Dallas Buyer's Club. I'm looking forward to seeing all of these films, but Dallas Buyer's Club more than any of the others. I really feel like Leto is going to get an Academy Award nomination for this performance. Oh, and Steve McQueen won Best Director for 12 Years a Slave, a film I've already gushed over more than once in recent weeks.

I absolutely adore movie awards season. Can you tell? Hopefully some of you do too. And those of us who love Jennifer Lawrence? We're going to get to see her accepting other awards in the near future, I predict. Hooray!
