Looking forward to seeing what he can do.
The Seattle Thunderbirds are welcoming a new player to the team next season. Luke Ormsby was born on February 14, 1999 in Port Angeles, but he grew up in Bellingham and Everett. He has played minor league hockey with the Sno-King Hockey Association from the time he was eight years old until he was 12. The forward stands at 5’11 and weighs 170 pounds. In the 2013 to 2014 season Ormsby played for the Tier 1 LA Jr. Kings 99, playing in four games and scoring one goal. He made no assists during that first year, earning one point for the season.
From 2014 to 2015, he played for the Tier 1 Midget team, Phoenix Jr. Coyotes. He scored a total of three goals in the 24 games that he played that season. He also made three assists, giving him a total of six points. He ended the season with 25 penalty minutes. In his second year on the team during the 2015 to 2016 season, he played in 21 games, scoring ten goals and making three assists, racking up a total of 13 points that year. He had 24 penalty minutes that season.
Seattle Thunderbirds general manager Russ Farwell announced that he would be joining the team on December 4, 2015. Ormsby says that playing for the Seattle Thunderbirds has been a dream of his since he was a young child. Ormsby has been at training camps with the T-Birds for the past two years, including the camp that just occurred this past fall, and Farwell says that the player has shown distinctive improvements over the years that indicate he will be an asset to the team. He is joining the team in December per a WHL Standard Player Agreement.
Ormsby says that he has wanted to play for the team ever since he saw Thomas Hickey play. Hickey gave Ormsby a puck after a game at the ShoWare Center and knew he wanted to be a T-Bird ever since. Farwell says that Ormsby has demonstrated a strong sense of determination and will bring a lot to the team. He says that the young man was close to becoming a T-Bird last fall as well.
Ormsby was selected as the 192nth in the Bantam Draft during the ninth round of draft selections. From December 7 through 27th, the Coyotes are off, so he anticipates playing for the Birds very soon—possibly by the middle of the month.
