Welcome, Laurin Mincy
New guard signed on to the Storm

The Seattle Storm has announced another two new players just before the draft begins next month. One of the new guards is Laurin Mincy, a six foot two, 13.5 points per game winner who helped her team make Final Four appearances year after year as well as take the tournament title. Mincy may have a history of injuries, such as the time she tore her left ACL, but she was also her team’s star senior (her teammates called her Grandma) with a plethora of awards and honors under her belt that will hopefully continue into her career.

Mincy was the 27th pick during the third round of draft selections last year during the 2015 WNBA Draft—the same draft that included Rookie of the Year Jewell Loyd. New York chose her last year but this year the Storm is picking her up to play. Fans of Mincy can keep up with her on social networks, such as her Instagram account, where she shares her love of everything from family to the game to the beach. Fans can also see her in her basketball uniform on the website.

Some of Mincy’s awards and honors include Second-Team All-Big Ten honors, All ACC Honorable Mention, All Big Ten Second Team, Naismith Early Season Watch List, Wooden Preseason Top 30, B1G Player of the Week, and Preseason all ACC Team. She started in every game as a senior and was dubbed a “difference maker” by her coach. She is known to be able to score with a wide variety of shots as well as make it to the free throw line to make shots from there, too. Born in Newark, New Jersey, she is the daughter of Duane Mincy and Carol Smith. She has two siblings, a brother and a sister. She was in the top 10 percent of her class.
