UW Sports Roundup
Talia Walton selected in WNBA Draft

As the 2015-16 collegiate athletic year heads into its final stretch run, the spring sports races have started to heat up. Plus, the University of Washington's women's hoops team keeps supplying good news for fans after their Final Four run.

Husky fans will be thrilled about the baseball team's ability to continue their success from last year as they currently sit in third place in the Pac-12 standings and only a game and a half out of first. Utah is in first, although they have played less games and sport a subpar 13-18 overall record. Cal sits between the UW and first place as well, and they have a much better looking 21-10 overall record.

The Huskies, at 8-6 in the Pac-12 and 18-12 overall, host a UCLA Bruins team that comes in with an under-.500 record. Heading into Sunday, the Bruins and Huskies have split the series, with both a pitcher's duel and slugfest in the first two games.

Noah Bremer threw a complete game gem, only to take the L as the only run of the game was scored by UCLA, deciding the game 1-0. Nonetheless, the Huskies came back the next day to win 8-7 thanks in large part to catcher Joey Morgan, who hit a home run and drove in three. Kyle Molinar is the expected starter on the hill for UCLA Sunday, while Huskies head coach Lindsey Meggs is yet to name his starter.

On the softball side of the diamond, the Huskies softball team also sits in third place in an ultra competitive Pac-12 behind UCLA and first place Oregon. Oregon is ranked sixth in the country and despite sitting behind UCLA in the standings, are ahead of them in the national rankings. Washington sits comfortably at 11th, while UCLA is 14th.

The Huskies host Cal this weekend, already winning the first two games of the series. Both games have been hard fought, as Friday Washington needed a comeback victory to overcome a Cal team fighting to get back to .500.

The individual honors keep coming in as well for Huskies women's athletics, with shortstop Ali Aguilar named a top 25 finalist for USA Collegiate Softball Player of the Year. Aguilar leads the Pac-12 Conference with 52 runs batted in, 17 home runs and 51 runs scored.

Don't forget about the women on the hardwood either, Talia Walton is now a former Husky and new member of the Los Angeles Sparks. Walton was selected by the Sparks as the fifth pick in the third round of the WNBA Draft Thursday. As the 29th overall pick, Walton becomes the third highest Husky drafted in the history of the program.
