Another play at the end of the game, another desperation play, last time on offense, this time on defense. Another blown call by the officials. Another miracle Seahawks win.

Honestly, I don’t know how these guys do it. Their offensive line is broken through as easily as tissue paper, resulting in no running game and Russell Wilson being pummeled by free rushers. Because of injury they are down to an unheralded rookie running back. Their offensive coordinator has the imagination of a rock. Three turnovers to zero (until the crucial play) that had turned a win into a contest. The Legion of Boom still without an interception through four games. By all rights they should be 1-3. By all rights their playoff hopes should already be in serious jeapordy.

Oh well, the Hawks have been on the other side of these things. One only has to think of the 2006 Super Bowl loss to the officials…I mean, the Steelers.

I gotta admit I feel for the Lions. Desperate to avoid going 0-4 they busted their tails on the road against a great team. They deserved to win. Calvin Johnson was literally in the act of planting their flag in triumph on the peak of Mt. Everest when a lightning bolt struck as if from heaven itself. You shall…not…pass (with the ball). And then to find out afterward that even then, even after a malevolent intervention, they should have won—but for an official’s non-call that, oh, by the way, cannot be reviewed.

The only thing I can say is, that this is so true to life. Sometimes in what looks to be your moment of triumph, unimaginable doom strikes. Sometimes in what looks like your moment of doom, unbelievable rescue comes.
