The Storm in the Off-Season
Storm women have been busy

You know how teachers often work during summer months as summer school instructors, tutors and other similar positions? That’s pretty much how a lot of athletes work and the women of the Seattle Storm are no exception. They have been extraordinarily busy during this year’s off-season. Every single Storm player, with the exception of Sue Bird, played internationally this year. The team is running a fun recap to give you an overview of what they’ve been up to lately.

Firstly, you probably already knew that Abby Bishop was back to the Australian team, the Canberra Capitals, but did you know that she averaged 14.6 points per game while there? That is a pretty awesome season, even if her team did end up in last place. Both Alysha Clark and Tanisha Wright had a pretty amazing season scoring trophies in the Israeli League championship series. They won the Cup title and Clark won MVP herself. Quanitra Hollingsworth has been playing for Turkey, and her team, Fenerbache, won the Turkish Cup with an amazing season ending in 23-3. That is a pretty strong season!

Markeisha Gatling had a very impressive off-season. She played in South Korea and scored 61.7 from the field, making 116 in 188 and averaging 7.9 points per game. She also started as a forward for the season, which is cool. Angel Goodrich, who played in Poland this year, led PWSZ Gorzow in total assists at 3.8 per game and came in third on points with 12.9 per game.

It is so much fun to see these women take their talents abroad and represent Seattle while they play all over the world. Some say that it’s a shame that players have to travel abroad to receive more pay and recognition than the WNBA currently receives in the United States, and while that is a sad fact that needs to be remedied as soon as possible, it is still really cool that they play in so many different locations. Do you think they’d continue to do so if they were paid similar salaries to NBA players, or would they continue to play abroad year-round just for love of the game? Perhaps there would be some of both in a world with equal athletic pay.
