T-Birds Lose to Chiefs
Verhelst led the Spokane team to victory

The Seattle Thunderbirds lost to the Spokane Chiefs on Wednesday night. The score was 4-2 with Tyson Verhelst protecting the Chiefs’ goal at all costs. Say what you will but he was on fire that night. It seems like the T-Birds play best when they are at home at the ShoWare Center; this was an away game at the Veterans Memorial Arena.

It was one of those nights like the presidential election of 2000. While the T-Birds may have made more shots and won the popular vote, the Chiefs simply blocked more of them and won the Electoral College. Something like that. They were leading on shots after two periods and it looked like it could be their game once they were tied in the first period, but it just wasn’t in the cards for the night.

Verhelst made 37 saves throughout the entire evening, which is pretty impressive. After last night’s game, his record is now 13-5-0-1 and is definitely a player to watch in the league. Flodell didn’t have a bad night—he made five saves out of six shots at one point—but Verhelst was just better that night. Tomorrow night the T-Birds will take them back on, but this time it will be on their home turf so hopefully that will give them an advantage. The puck drops at 7:35 if you want to cheer them on. Tickets are still available and range from $16 to $60.

Can’t make it Friday? Support the Birds on Saturday, December 12 when they take on the Everett Silvertips at 7:05. It should be a good game. There is also a game coming up on Tuesday, December 15 versus Prince George, also at 7:05. That night should be even more epic since it will be Star Wars night.

A game against Tri-City will take place on Friday, December 18. That game will be at 7:35. All of these games will take place at the ShoWare Center. If you feel like traveling or you will be in town, they will be playing at Tri-City on Saturday, December 19 at 7:05. Buy your tickets online at the T-Birds website or at the box office any time Monday through Friday from 10 to 5. On Sundays, it doesn’t open until noon.

Can’t make any of the games? Be sure to watch or listen in live so you don’t miss anything. Tune in to CBS Seattle for the latest games.
