Kevin Mather to the Rescue
Some shows always finish with a smile… and what's wrooonnggg with thaaaaat

Continuing to follow Ms. Hagy's advice on how to find interest in life....

.

Embrace Your Innate Weirdness.

Hm.  Dr. D will have to consider attempting this some day.

Could the Ms' "Weirdness" add to the interest and liveliness of its club?  Well, it's got SABRMatt daily swearing an oath to Odin that he will never watch another inning... like we sez, others at SSI are merely trying to keep the FACADE of sanity.

Nah, c'mon Dr. D.      -Okay-      They're holding MY interest as to whether they will implode EXACTLY as the Felix-Erik-Pineda-Fister-Vargas team did in 2011:

  • "The best rotation in baseball" (Chris "6-time" Chambliss) leading a surprise 43-43 record in July
  • On July 6, it occurs to the Mariners that they'll never start hitting
  • On July 6, the M's lose their first of 17 consecutive ballgames (ergo, 43 W and 60 L on July 27)
  • A team that Billy Beane would have had in the playoffs, lost 95 games
  • 95 is like, pretty much 100

Tell me that ain't interesting, the "Echo Collapse" between 2011 and 2014.  No, wait, the M's current sag ---- > began July 4 rather than July 6.  Maybe we're grasping at straws here.

........

a'ight.  THIS time, they went and got Kendrys Morales.  And Kevin Mather has got Eddie and Lumpy coming over for the party.  We'll take it.

(No, no, cut Dr. D some slack.  It's NOT too easy of a joke.  He'll bet you 50% of the readers here never heard of Leave it to Beaver, much less the super-iconic Jerry Mathers, much less Eddie and Lumpy.  But David Price looks pretty Eddie Haskell from here, so just roll with it.)

.

Have a Cause.

"If you don't give a rip about what you're saying, how do you expect others to?"

And Silentpadna just said (for the 13th straight year) that the Top Down Message could make things interesting, as it does for the Seahawks and Angels.  But some people, you are quite aware, prefer boring.  Security is one of man's six* basic motivations; some people simply take it to a neurotic level.  Not the M's, but you know.

..........

Beast Mode's cause used to be "That Action, Boss."  Now his cause is "That Legion 'o Boom median salary, Boss."  Koba fight for Koba.

Maybe have Felix call up Marshawn?

Of all y'all's arguments, I like Silentpadna's.  If Beast Mode wants to retire:

  • Expect Paul Richardson, Percy, etc. to "stretch the field" -- not as a cliche, but in reality
  • Expect Carroll to allow Wilson to throw the ball down the field more
  • Expect to discover that Christine Michael is averaging 11.2 yards per carry, in Marshall Faulk style

Lynch got what, 23 yards in the Super Bowl.  He ain't there because rushing is so critical to NFL 2014 strategy; he's there to "close the circle on toughness."  Bill Walsh was able to do that with a committee.

....

The Seahawks make my baseball life MUCH more interesting:  I can venture into Seattle baseball so long as it suits me, lessened risk.  Because then when it goes sour again, I can just turn to hardcore sports.

I'll admit to not quite getting the Leave it to Beaver as Mt. Rushmore pix.  But then It all came together in a brilliant flash when I read about Kevin Mathers and Lumpy.
Doc, if only 50% of us SSI guys got it, that still leaves us a full 49.9% ahead of all of Ork-dom.  Except for the dastardly head Orc, of course, who just smiled at your Jerry Mathers and raised you a Tony Dow.
I hate that head Orc!  Can we hire him?  There's some Eddie Haskell in him that I just abosolutely love.
