Sounders Lose to Rapids
Final score is 3-1

The Seattle Sounders took on the Colorado Rapids at the Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado on Saturday and lost. Although Jordan Morris was able to score his second goal of the season and his career, the team failed to score again and lost 3-1 to the Rapids. Morris’s goal occurred during the 63red minute of the game.  The Sounders are now 0-2 for on the road games and back to losing after just winning or drawing for their past four matches for the 2016 season.

Two of the Rapids’ goals were scored by Jermaine Jones and Luis Solignac. The former scored in the 20th minute while the latter was during the 51st. During the 86th minute, striker Kevin Doyle swept in and scored the last goal, taking the score up to 3-1. Keep in mind that the Rapids usually lose against Seattle. They have only won 4 games out of 19 regular matches in the history of the franchise, which puts things into a pretty bleak perspective.

Seattle Sounders Head Coach Sigi Schmid said, “Just not a good game for us. Obviously Colorado: Hats off to them. They did well. They scored their goals. ... But I thought for us tonight, I thought we didn't play well at all. I thought it was our worst game of the season." He went on to say, “Today I thought we, as a unit — when I say team, I don't mean just the players, I mean we as a unit: coaching staff, players — we beat ourselves today. As much as Colorado did a good job and played well — I don't want to take anything away from (coach Pablo Mastroeni's) team for sure — but we did not play well.”  The worst game of the year? Ouch. Seattle ‘s stats are now 2-4-1.

Andreas Ivanchitz was forced to sub out during part of the match due to a muscle issue. Both Clint Dempsey and Nelson Valdez were missing from the match on Saturday. It was Dempsey’s first miss and it was more of a precautionary action than anything else, as he was experiencing a tightness in his groin and wanted to ensure it was nothing big before proceeding with a game. Valdez’s decision was a similar one based on some tightness in his hamstring. Would the Sounders have performed better had the two players made the match? It is possible that either player could have made a difference, but you can’t spend time on the what-ifs after a match. Both men are expected to be back in action for the April 30 match against Columbus Crew SC. Hercules Gomez and Erik Friberg subbed in the game to make up the difference.
