Real Madrid nab first trophy of the season
Edge Sevilla in the European Supercup

Somewhat ironically, the two teams in the European Supercup had to travel to nearly the opposite side of the continent to play each other even though they both play in the same domestic league. Real Madrid and Sevilla left Spain's sunny skies for the legendary Norwegian summer for the battle between the UEFA Champions and Europa League winners.

It was closer than Zinedine Zidane and Florentino Perez would have liked, but the match was a perfect display of Real's depth within the squad. Zidane was without the all-world attacking trident, BBC of Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo. The young madridstas and former cantaneros Marco Asensio, Lucas Vazquez and Kiko Casilla came through for the Champions League winners.

Oh and don't forget another former Real Madrid youth product, Dani Carvajal, whom people are billing as the best right back in the world. All he did was win the match in stoppage time, after bringing the ball all the way up and sending a screamer past the keeper for the trophy.

Asensio, at only 20 years of age, is pushing two players who could play at any club they want out of Real Madrid, one of the biggest clubs in the world. Isco and James Rodriguez, after underwhelming performances in 2015-16, did nothing to suggest Asencio couldn't pick up for them if they were to seek a contract elsewhere.  Asensio opened the scoring, bending a magnificent shot around Sevilla's keeper before Sevilla bounced make to even the score. That would be the only goal Casilla allowed apart from a penalty when he went the wrong way.

Lucas Vazquez got a rare start, and didn't disappoint. It was his cross that allowed who else but Sergio Ramos to head in the tying goal. Ramos' goal made up for his mistake, tripping up a Sevilla player in the box that provoked the penalty shot to put Sevilla ahead 2-1.

Carvajal apparently didn't want to work overtime as he took it upon himself to bring it up himself from nearly midfield before guiding the final death blow past the keeper and into the record books. Maybe that's a little dramatic for a one-ff "championship" game in which one side decides to sit some of their best.

Not a bad start for Real Madrid, it won't save anyone's jobs, as this isn't even a blip on their radar. But it did offer a good view into the Real Madrid's talented youth that lies in the wings.
