Players to watch in the Eurocup final

Portugal and France face off tomorrow to decide who will be the European champions of 2016, and there is plenty of star power. France is favored heading into the match, with their big name players and being the hosts of the tournament they should have most if not all of the crowd on their side.

Still, there will be some players who will have more influence on the outcome than others. Here's a list of who to watch for.

Portugal

Cristiano Ronaldo

This should be obvious. He's the best player in the tournament and quite possibly the best in the world. He shares the team lead with three goals scored this tournament, but even more impressive are his three assists. It seems that his strike pairing with Nani up top has started to hit its stride here in the final rounds.

Plus don't think that he doesn't see this game as a possible validation of his superiority over Messi. With a win Sunday, he will bring his country a championship, something Messi has never been able to do. Plus a continental trophy paired with his Champions League win with Real Madrid would make him the default Balon D'Or winner.

Pepe

While it would be easy to pick Nani here, Pepe will be just as important on the other end of the pitch, as the leader in stopping the slippery Antoine Griezmann and the French attack. Pepe is getting up there in age, but for the past few years when everyone thought he was on the decline, he has a resurgence. This tournament he hasn't looked as in form as maybe he did for Real Madrid, and he has been nursing an injury, holding out of practice the past few days. His performance in holding the back line will dictate whether Portugal ends the tournament with a win or loss.

France

Antoine Griezmann

Who else? Griezmann not only has turned out to be the driving force for the French in this tournament, but quite possibly the most fun player to watch. The diminutive striker has shown a skill set that doesn't get displayed too often when he's playing for Atlético Madrid, finding smart runs and cutting through the defense with a Messi-like intuition.

He has a nose for the ball, which was on display against Germany, as the ball just seemed to find his foot off rebounds, and he made the Germans pay. Griezmann is also making Atlético look extremely smart this offseason too, extending his contract and upping his buyout clause ahead of his starring role in the tournament.

Dimitri Payet

Payet is yet another player who has cemented himself in France's starting XI. At the start of 2016, he was not a regular fixture in the starting lineup, but has proved indispensable. His forte is set pieces, which could prove to be a difference maker as Portugal have Ronaldo as the target and taker of set pieces, who is the biggest threat in the air and taking free kicks.
