Barcelona gets their first trophy
Win Spanish Supercopa

Watching their rivals capture the first available trophy of the season couldn't have been too pleasant for Barcelona players or their fans. Luckily, they did not have to wait too long, and they even got to try their luck against the same team Real Madrid played in the European Supercup, Sevilla.

Barça technically won both the Copa del Rey and La Liga titles, and of course the champions of each competition face each other for the Spanish Supercopa. But of course Barcelona can't play themselves, so Copa del Rey runners up Sevilla were on the chopping block yet again. This time however, the Andalucians at least got to play in their home stadium.

Despite the home field advantage at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán, los sevillanos went down 2-0 to the Catalans, thanks to goals by Luis Suarez and Munir El Haddadi. Suarez converted his opportunity after an incredible set up by Arda Turan, who played a volley off his back to put the ball right at the Uruguayan's feet to open the scoring.

Young Munir came on for Messi in the second half, and rewarded Luis Enrique's faith with a goal. Many talk of the need for reinforcements along the attack, but the soon-to-be 21-year-old Munir looks like he may be ready to step in for any of Barça's big three.

Speaking of reinforcements, in the Spanish capital Real Madrid should make some moves in case they lose their appeal for a transfer ban. If the ban is upheld, they will not be able to bring in any new players until after 2017.

No doubt they are looking to become the first club to win consecutive Champions League titles, but Zinedine Zidane can't afford to lose sight of a La Liga or Copa de Rey title if Real misses out on European glory. He needs to look no further than his mentor Carlo Ancelotti to see that despite the adoration and love of the locker room, no titles equals no job the next season.

The important part is that with 2016 barely underway, Spain's two big clubs are even on trophies already at one. Likely even more important for both fan bases is that each is one-for-one as the real battles for trophies is now underway. Both sides face depth questions, therefore it could come down to who has the endurance to still be standing come May.
