Seattle Victory Against Portland
T-Birds take the Winterhawks

The Seattle Thunderbirds have had a hilly season when it comes to the Winterhawks. It seems like for every win, there was an accompanying loss for a while there, but that unfortunate pattern may just be over. On Friday night, the T-Birds took the Winterhawks in a tight 3-1 victory at the ShoWare Center. Two new acquisitions from the Swift Current Broncos, Cavin Leth and Landon Bow, both had a big night during the game, perhaps bringing some luck to the team along with their skills.

The game started off as Seattle’s, with Ethan Bear making the first goal of the evening during the first period. Assists were made by Turner Ottenbreit  and Alexander True. Bear has had an excellent season and this made his twelfth goal overall. Seattle stayed in the lead for the rest of the game, with no other points on the board during the first period. During the second period, Seattle scored twice, with Portland still trailing far behind. Nolan Volcan scored the first goal of the second period, making his tenth of the season. Newcomer Leth and Jerret Smith made the assists. The next goal was made by Leth himself, assisted by Jared Hauf and Smith again.

Portland tried to catch up during the third period with one goal scored by Veloso (assists from Clayton and Jones) but it was just too late in the game. Seattle outshot, outsaved and outscored Portland throughout the evening, earning a solid victory for the T-Birds. Penalties throughout the game included some delaying and hooking, roughing between Eansor and Sea, Weingor and Por and Heinrich and Por, and unsportsmanlike conduct between Kolesar and Sea. Refs for the game were Tyler Adair and Adam Griffiths.

Bow, a goaltender, saved 24 of 25 shots made from the Winterhawks on Friday, an impressive feat for the newcomer. Fans not only caught a glimpse of both Leth and Bow, but also Bryan Allbee, another recent acquisition to the team. Allbee comes from Kootenay Ice.
