Roto HQ: Backdoor Sliders Chat Thread

Discussion thread for Yahoo League 73761.  Drafting March 26th.   Thanks Justin!

................

1.  I'm going to pretend not to notice what any of the team names, or league name, reference.  :- )

2.  I did notice, however, that Albert Pujols is in the player pool.  That makes me suspicious that this could be a mixed league (of course with these owners, you can't rule out the possibility that they have info at MLB headquarters as to a pending trade).

3.  How many of the teams are owned by people I know?  I recognize Taro.  Can you bring me up-to-date Justin as to anybody else I know?

4.  G-Money, Mikey Jay, Spec, Inside Pitch, Silentpadna, Cool Papa, JFro, other good amigos, we have what ... 6 slots remaining?   We're auctioning off spots...

.................

If Dr. D is going to be preparing anyway:  I need a more serious 12-team AL-only league, same format, seeing as 70% player 'penetration' as in 20-team mixed is a complete joke.  We mean it in a good way.

Anybody up for the 12-team AL-only?  Drafting same day, Mar. 26, or the Saturday after that one, April 3 would it be?

..................

I'm psyched!  It's been awhile.

.

Put up yer dukes,

Jemanji

I think it takes a lot more skill to win in deeper leagues.
I'm good with a mixed league if we could add more teams. AL or NL-only works too. :-)

This actually is a 20-team AL-only league. With the player pool so thin, teams use top draft picks on NL players in hopes that they get traded across leagues mid-season. About 5-10 players from every team's lineup/rotation will be backups or minor leaguers, so you're not really hurt by carrying a Pujols in your starting lineup and getting all 0's for the entire season. :) If we want to do an AL-only league, I'm definitely game.

I think Taro might be the only one you know right now, and I suspect some of our contact information for the old guys is out of date (especially the AOL emails). Logged into my justynius AOL account a few weeks ago and there were over 40,000 messages (all spam even though I hadn't used it for years). Need some of the SSI'ers to fill in for the STATS Inc. departures!
This is actually the sixth year of the league and one of the cool things about Yahoo leagues is that they preserve the history. If you go to the front page of the league, there is a "Season" dropdown in the upper right corner which can take you to the pages for prior years.
A lot of these guys are hardcore in terms of making a lot of roster moves and blowing up your trade offers page. "The Braun Supremacy", "LAGARDE", and "SBS White Sox" are three teams to watch out for. "Jew Crew" is an Asian guy who sits near me at work who achieved minor celebrity status for a particularly dreadful rendition of Ricky Martin on American Idol. "Edenton Steamers" is my high school aged cousin who is in need of some humility in regards to his MLB knowledge.
Skimming through the draft pool, looks like it's going to be a rough year deciding on a first round pick if you're in the 2-10 range.

A more readable version of my prior post....

Haha, I think it'd be fun to try that sometime. Be interesting to see how much your scrub everyday players are worth, and how teams choose to gamble.

I'm in for sure. I can't pass on the opportunity to play against that kind of competition. :-)
I wasn't planning on playing this year though, so one league would be the max for me. Maybe Justin could change his league to AL-only and keep the strongest owners in?

Or maybe we could convert Justin's league to 12-team AL only this year?
Justin, would you be down for that? I only want to go for one league this year anyhow..
Any word from GMoney, Mikey Jay, Spec, Inside Pitch, Silentpadna, Cool Papa, JFro, etc?

Don't think that's too realistic of an option. I've already changed the draft time on these guys, might be a bit much to also change the player pool and arbitrarily kick out people.
I'll play in an AL-only league, but can't say I'm a big fan of it. Seen too many leagues where a King Felix is randomly traded cross-league for three minor league prospects, and a team gets butchered for a move there's no way to possibly foresee.

Fair nouf. How about a no-trade mixed league+ a few teams added?
The 3 prospect for Felix type trades usually don't happen unless you've got a couple rookies in the mix..
