Quick Fall/Winter update

Signs of life from Prince Carlos

11/10 played 2b 1-for-4

11/11 played 3b 0-for-4

11/12 played SS 3-for-4

Seems to be shaking off the rust finally and playing all around the diamond.

Talented Mr. Ackley: well, OK, no ticket to Cooperstown in his first month as a pro

But it's not like he's a total disaster, either.

50 AB, 15 H, 4 2b, 0 HR, 7 BB, 14 K, 1 SB, 0 CS

.300/.386/.380/.766

I'm more convinced than Doc that the SLG will come, based on what he did in college, but it won't be instantaneous (also based on what he did in college).

_460008.jpg?itok=KeOVyLGW" />Varvaro is getting longer stints (Fields has 8 appearances of exactly one inning each), so he has 12.0 IP in 9 appearances.  He's only given up 3 ER in those 12 innings, and never more than 1 per appearance.

He has 9 K vs. 2 BB for his 12 innings of work.  His BA against is .171, while Fields' is .167.

Do not be shocked to see these two in the Batista and White roles (White coming off injury) next year.

[img_assist|nid=28207|title=Le Quebecer|desc=|link=popup|align=left|width=0|height=0]Didn't deliberately leave out Aumont (although he has a 10.80 ERA).
He has struggled mightily at times, but he does have 14 K vs. 5 BB in 10.0 IP.
4 HR in those 10 IP haven't helped any.
His last three appearances have produced 8 K in 4.0 IP, so some of that unhittable stuff is still there.  No clue if his mechanics are improving.

Winter ball or not, the fact that he's squaring everything up, squaring it up with authority, and tearing around the bases like that ... Cool Papa's sales pitch is ringing in our ears on the lad...

Also walked twice, so a .302/.403/.434 line so far.

If the kid adds 15, 20 homers to the mix, he's liable to be a star in the bigs.  Pretty easy to project the OBP.
