PLAYOFF ODDS

DaddyO sez,

.

DaddyO No doubt that with this latest winning streak the M's are starting to rekindle some interest. What they need is to extend this streak to, say, ten games, and still play high percentage baseball afterwards, while the teams above them either struggle or beat each other. Then it gets real interesting.

.

And we're back to the Big Three already on Wednesday :- )

Detroit, the Royals, Jays, and Astros lost while Taijuan Walker did his Max Scherzer impersonation.  Fangraphs shot our playoff odds all the way back up to 27.6%, which is where it has been at most of the higher points this season.  In our NFL game analogy, a few minutes elapsed while the Seahawks moved the ball way down the field Tuesday:

.

LOW POINT (4%):  Behind 28-7 in the first quarter.  (Four minutes left in Q1, your ball, midfield.)

TUESDAY MORNING (20%):  Behind 34-28 in the fourth quarter on your own 25 yard line.  (Five minutes left in the game, your ball 1st-and-10 after a touchback.)

WEDNESDAY MORNING (27.6%):  Behind 34-28 and you've moved the ball forty yards, from your 25 to the Cardinals' 35 yard line.  (2:15 left in the game, 1st-and-10.)

Yes, the odds swing ina  volatile way this late in the season.  Interesting that the Yankees have half our odds; must have to do with their schedule?  Or the tiebreaks with Balmer and Toronto?

.

BLINK AND YOU WOULD HAVE MISSED IT

They relayed on TV that Scott Servais confirms Dan Vogelbach has "big, big power."  Brought that up on two different occasions to the TV amigo.

.

HOW COULD WE POSSIBLY LOSE

WEDNESDAY:  Hisashi "WBC-San" Iwakuma's 15 wins vs RH Joulys "5.63" Chacin, subbing in for Tyler Skaggs

THURSDAY:  The King vs. RH Colin McHugh at Safeco, McHugh's last five Shandler PQS (0-5) scores being 4, 0, 5, 3, 0

FRIDAY:  Zeus vs. RH Mike Fiers, 10-7 4.64 with a 6.9 whiff, 2.3 walk, 1.5 gopheritis slash line (don't have any men on base when Cruz digs in)

SATURDAY:  Hot Elias vs Doug Fister, 170 IP, with 5.7 whiffs, 3.1 walk (not good enough for this kinda guy), 1.1 homers

Looks like we can count our chickens wayyyy before they hatch.

Enjoy,

Dr D

It looks, to me, like it's going to be Stroman, Estrada and Sanchez (he is being delayed in his start due to a blister on his pitching hand but the injury report currently says "likely the 21st" for his return.  If that doesn't happen, the likely replacement would be Dickey.

And we're sending Walker, Iwakuma and Felix for that series.
