Player of the Day: Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis
Meet player #23

She wears the #23 jersey for the Seattle Storm. Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis is a forward on the WNBA team. She stands at 5’11 and weighs 180 pounds. Mosqueda-Davis was born on November 3, 1993 in Pomona, California. She attended Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California, where she was captain of her high school team and played for the Connecticut Huskies in college. She was selected to play for the Seattle Storm during the 2015 WNBA Draft as the third overall choice during the first round of draft picks. It’s pretty obvious that she started playing basketball when she was in the third grade (even though she did not enjoy the game at first) because she has already achieved so much by age 22.

Even though Mosqueda-Lewis is a rookie for the WNBA, she has already earned several honors and awards in her career. As a teen, she made the Parade All-America first team in 2009. She made the USA Today All-USA third team in 2013. In 2011, she was the State Farm/WBCA High School Player of the Year. That same year, she was the Gatorade National Player of the Year, an award she also won in 2009, as well as the Naismith High School Player of the Year. She was also the 2011 ESPN National Player of the Year. She has already won four gold medals in her youth: two for the U16 and U17 National Teams in 2009 and 1010, one for the U18 and U19 National Teams in 2011 and one for the World University Games in 2013.

As a collegiate player, Mosqueda-Lewis played in 142 games. She has played 27 games for the Storm so far, but has not yet started in any of them. She has a current field goal percentage of 0.390%. She missed a total of twelve games during her junior year due to injuries and illness but still finished the season strong, including making the firrst triple-double by a Husky in NCAA Tournament play.

Mosqueda-Lewis’s parents are Sundy Ali and Khairi Ali. She was a pre-communications major at Connecticut. Fans can find her on Twitter at @kaleena_23. She says that “You shouldn't be scared of the world...I kinda suspect the world should be scared of you.” Fans have posted on her feed that they miss seeing her play and that watching games at the University of Connecticut is not the same without her on the team.
