Player of the Day: Jimmy Ockford
#21 hails from Yardley, Pennsylvania

He wears the #21 uniform for the Seattle Sounders soccer club. Jimmy Ockford was born on June 10, 1992 in Yardley, Pennsylvania, a town that he still considers his hometown. He is 6’1 and weighs 185 pounds. He is a defender for the Sounders.

Prior to becoming a Sounder, Ockford played with several other clubs. While playing in high school at Pennsbury HS, we won a letter each year and served as captain during his senior year. His youth career began in 2010 when he played for the Mount Saint Mary’s Mountaineers, his alma mater. He played for the Mountaineers from 2010 to 2012, a total of three seasons. In 2013, he played for the Louisville Cardinals, where he transferred after the Mountaineers canceled their men’s soccer program. Louisville is where he started playing as a defender. With the Cardinals, Ockford scored four goals during his 20 appearances and helped the Cardinals win the AAC season title. While in college, he also played for Reading United and the Central Jersey Spartans.

Ockford’s senior career began in 2012 when he played with the Central Jersey Spartans for a season. While playing with the Spartans, Ockford made 12 appearances but made no goals. Next, he joined with Reading United in 2013 for another season. He made eight appearances with Reading United. The Sounders picked Ockford up on January 16, 2014 during the 2014 MLS SuperDraft during the second round of draft picks. He was the 21st pick overall during that draft. Since 2014 he has been with the Seattle Sounders, going on loan to the New York Cosmos in 2014 for 10 appearances, during which he made two goals. He also went on loan to the Seattle Sounders FC 2 for a total of 13 appearances, scoring a single goal during that time. Some of his honors and achievements include making American Athletic League Conference regular season champions in 2013 as well as the 2013 Defender of the year Award from the American Athletic League Conference.
