Russell Wilson Elite?
the hobbit is even tricksier than anybody bargained for

.

Saw some yokels on NinersNation grousing that Wilson is still cherry-picking his good games against weak opponents.  That his playoff record leaves much to be desired and he's still way overrated.

But another yokel chimed in with "Really?  You don't think he was elite even LAST year?  With a 34/8 ratio and 4,000 yards while running for his life every play?"  Resistance to that was decidedly lacking in spirit.

Another guy added on, "What do you think a Hall of Fame quarterback looks like after his fourth year?"

Imagine Wilson with the Cowboys' offensive line and some feature receivers.  But somebody at Outsiders was asked, "is he elite" and the response was, he's been playing in a crowd that has 5 of the best 15 quarterbacks who ever lived ... Manning, Brees, Brady, and Rodgers we knew about.  Had no idea they put the 5th guy in there as an all-time great.  Did you?

...

It says here that Wilson is better than his (young) peers at TRYING to improve, time in the film room, studying with a view to his career end game, etc., and it's really starting to pay off.  Yesterday's performance, 16-for-21 for almost 200 yards, and two gorgeous creative playground miracles that broke down the defense long ... No telling where this thing is going, as they say about Paxton.

The Seahawks yesterday ran 16 passes vs. 7 runs in their first 23 plays.  Maybe with Beast Mode retired, they're going to shift to Air Coryell.  Love love love the way they're organizing their attack around 2-second drops, with playground scrambles mixed in.

For me, he looked next level Thursday, on those 3- and 5-step drops.  Brady level.  Would welcome feedback.

If the Seahawks shift gears this year and PASS TO SET UP THE RUN, we've got Rawls and Michaels who could pop off quite a few 8, 11, 15 yard runs against the nickel packages.  A la Warner and Faulk with the Rams.  Really liking Seattle's chances to score some points in 2016.

...

Baldwin is getting some serious props, top 100 players in the NFL, etc.  As a SLOT receiver, comp'ing him to Welker and Edelman and their ilk, maybe I could be persuaded.  Would be interested to hear all y'all's take.

Enjoy,

Dr D

But one thing not an if--Wilson is already elite.

Unfortunately,

--receivers about average (with 'ifs')

--running backs below average (until they show otherwise)

--offensive line below average

--defense going the wrong direction--time to stop seeing them through 2013 glasses

So Wilson better bring his Harry Potter-level bag of tricks.

After his touchdown rampage last year it was understandable but also predictable.  Everybody else watched the slotmachine dinging last year too.  IMO that's why the offense sputtered in the first two preseason games. Agains the Cowboys Wilson started spreading it around a little more liberally.  He does that through the year and lookout!
