Message From Lisa Borders
WNBA President addresses fans

It’s her first day on the job and Lisa Borders is not missing a beat. She took to social media today giving an inspiring and welcoming message to fans new and old with a video. The Storm shared the message on their Facebook page for fans to see.

In the video, Borders says that she is thrilled to join with the fans and community on her first day of work, today, as the new WNBA president. She called this period an exciting time in the history of the association; fans may remember that this is the 20th anniversary of the WNBA. She went on to praise the skills and athleticism of the players on the court, which she says has helped to create “great competition” during the games. “The game has never been better.”

She also took the time to remind fans that the women of the WNBA are just as amazing off the court as they make connections in their local communities through events, fundraising efforts, charity work and just plain fun activities with their fans. “These incredible women continue to inspire millions of fans,” she says. The video highlighted some of these key moments, depicting some players with their youngest fans. Borders says that they are not only entertaining us, but they are also demonstrating how anything is possible—something that young women need to know today more than ever, with so many opportunities available to them yet so many naysayers still standing on the sidelines.

Borders says that she is really looking forward to working with “our extraordinary players and our amazing fans.” She went on to praise the owners and management teams of the WNBA, saying that we are fortunate to have such engaged, “top-notch” people working so hard to make this franchise a part of our lives. “Together we work, we will build and we will celebrate the WNBA, honoring our history and setting the stage for decades and generations to come,” she said, and fans can’t help but notice that nod to the #watchmework campaign that she implemented into that sentiment.

Borders thanked seasoned fans and new ones alike for joining the WNBA in this historic year. She ended by saying that she hopes everyone enjoys this season. What did you think of her video from day one on the job? How do you think the big 20th season is shaping up so far?
