Two More Approaches to the "Left-Handed Tilt"
Dayan Viciedo and help from within ...

So here is the final installments of the the “left-handed tilt” series.  For now.

Thus far, we’ve found reason to be concerned — as Robinson Cano is — about the lack of above-average bats vs. left-handed pitching who aren’t coming off an entire missed season due to surgery on both knees (Corey Hart, of course).

At the same time, we’ve found nothing worth busting the bank or cashing in the Nick Franklin chip for.

But here are two more possible approaches:

Dayan Viciedo of the White Sox

Help from within: D.J. Peterson and, even ...

All at Mariner Brainstorm.

Spec,
I nearly did a thread about Viciedo a couple of days ago. Evidently, as you've pointed out, he's potentially available. He K's and doesn't walk, but he can mash the snot out of lefties. I see the main dilemma as less who to swap for him (I'm confident it wouldn't have to be Franklin) but who is the odd man out. I think we're all pretty sure that Almonte is a lock to not get sent to Tacoma, ditto Ackley, and Saunders. (If Almonte goes down, then Bloomquist becomes the BU CF and Saunders gets a whole lot of CF time again. Mac seems set on Ackley playing only LF) So, do you give up on Smoak? Move LoMo? It isn't going to be Hart. Chicago probably doesn't need a Smoak or LoMo.
Viciedo in means somebody out. Who? Bloomquist isn't going anywhere as that would be admitting a big boo boo.
Of course, all this applies to any acquired RH OF bat.
Actually, a three team swap for Viciedo makes the most sense. M's get their RH bat, LoMo goes to one of the teams needing 1B help (Pittsburgh?) and something goes Chicago's way. That might work. Trader Jack may be just the guy to whip it together.
There also seems to be a pretty heated brain-trust man crush developing over James Jones. He's going to get a call-up at some point this year, I think. And Gillespie is hitting right now. A RH bat, but with what upside? He rocks in Reno, but who doesn't.
Two doubles for Montero, the invisible man, today. Could he have a MLB spot out of ST? I can't imagine that, but same deal applies to him as to Viciedo. Smoak or LoMo is in the way.
