Kelly is unlikely to be J. Damon or M. Joyce. I'm not touting him because he's a likely All-Star
But he gets on base, he's getting better and he's the best LF option we have in the house.
Go get me Craig or Van Slyke or Willingham, Z....I've been all over that.....I am not married to Kelly. But I am married to giving Ackley's PA's to a guy who might get on base. And it's a fair bet that Chavez doesn't keep it up. I suspect we will see Chavez and Gillespie (or Bloomquist) do some role sharing in LF, but Kelly is likely (now that Romero isn't it) our best piece of spaghetti to chuck against the wall.
Which is what AAA is largely for. He won't be "more" pedigreed next year and we need the help this year. Chavez's recent streak allows him a week of leeway or so......but his past history is a pretty good thing to keep in mind.
Heck, Franklin is likely a better choice than Ackley and Chavez, but the more we play him in Seattle the more we risk creaming his trade value. However, if you bring him up and he hits, then you don't need the trade.....
Kelly's flawed to some degree, but a LF who could get on base 36% of the time would be cool by me.
