Mariners Minor League Game Action Spotlight for July 10
Tyler too! ... Tyler three! ... Tyler more! ... etc.

Let's put some "Spotlight" on the low minors for a change.

And guys named "Tyler."

I already used the Tyler, Too! catchphrase for Tyler Marlette (26intheMix) -- since he was kind of lost in the shuffle among the many catchers in the organization.

And we have Tyler O'Neill covered -- he's The Tank!

So what do we do with Tyler Olson?

Is he Tyler, Also! [?]

We'll figure it out.

Short Season-A -- Everett 5, Eugene 0 -- Box

Call him what you want, Olson was crushing Eugene Emeralds into fine green powder on Wednesday:

9.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 10 K

So does Olson get the "college-pitcher-in-the-low-minors" disclaimer that we so callously slapped on Eddie Campbell just yesterday after he  struck out 10 (and in just 5.0 IP)?

Yes, but a milder one.  [Still, your mileage will vary.  And always tell your doctor if you have visited an area in which certain fungal infections are common.]

First, Everett is a level above Pulaski.  Not just in age (although the players are slightly older), but in talent and experience.

And Gonzaga's West Coast Conference schedule isn't really up to the level of the ACC slate that Campbell's Virginia Tech squad played.  The thing with college baseball is that the disparities make it hard to generalize.  Teams playing in the SEC or ACC day-in, day-out will face competition better than the low minors, but teams in minor conferences ... well, frankly there will better junior-college teams (because the kids in the best JC programs are trying to get scholarships to the top conference schools).

In short, while Campbell was arguably stepping down a bit in his short trip from Blacksburg to Pulaski, you can't really say the same about Olson's journey from Spokane to Everett.

Then again, I could be wrong.

Anyway ... good show, Tyler!

And James Zamarripa (Watch List) had a double, two singles and a walk.   Jack Reinheimer also had three hits, and Austin Wilson had a double and two walks.

All that talent in Everett has them off to a 19-7 start.

AZL Rookie -- Mariners 13, Brewers 10 -- Box

And The Tank! is on a roll.

The latest British Columbian to join the organization (Jason Bay, Michael Saunders, James Paxton also), Tyler O'Neill got his first home run, but also three singles to go with it.

He's now 12-for-26 in his first seven games:

.426/.517/.769

He seems to be adapting to professional ball pretty well.

And getting two hits was the long-mysterious Cavan Cohoes, who was taken in the 9th round of the 2011 draft out of a U.S. military installation high school in Germany.  He didn't play at all in 2011, and only played two games of rookie ball in 2012.

He's finally getting some regular playing time, and the two hits Wednesday were actually his first two hits as a pro.

And on the mound for the fourth time (but first start) was Ugueth Urbina (the younger) (Watch List), son of the ex-Expo closer and Venezuelan prison inmate of the same name (young Urbina doesn't use "Jr.").   His father, now released, has hinted about making a comeback, but it was the younger one pitching Wednesday.

He struggled with giving up hits, but most of them were singles: 4.2 IP, 12 H, 6 ER, 0 BB, 4 K.
