Mariners Minor League Game Action Recap for June 18
All-Stars don't star all that much ... Erasmo is OK in the Rockies ... etc.

EDIT:  Should have noted (although it's not a huge surprise) that Justin Smoak was recalled to the Big Club from his rehab assignment, and Alex Liddi (Talk40 #29) returned to Tacoma as a result.  Smoak went right into the lineup and delivered a key homer in addition to much-needed roster flexibility for Mike Morse and Kendrys Morales.

Low-A -- Midwest League All-Star Game:  East 6, West 5 -- Box

As we noted yesterday, the most glamorous names were on the West team with the Mariners guys, but that wasn't enough for the win.

Jabari Henry (26intheMix) substituted for emerging "Next Big Thing" Byron Buxton in center.  He had a walk and a strikeout in two plate appearances.

Moe will rejoice that Dario Pizzano (26intheMix) was the starting left fielder.  He drew a walk in three plate appearances.

Tyler Marlette (26intheMix) also drew a walk in his only turn at the plate.

On the mound, Tyler Pike (Talk40 #14) tossed a scoreless inning with one strikeout.

High-A -- Carolina League All-Stars 12, California League All-Stars 2 -- Box

The guys from the east didn't mind playing in California at all (the game was in San Jose, which isn't one of the "pinball" sites, but the Carolina guys put up the pinball numbers).

Fortunately, no Mariners prospects pitched.

Chris Taylor (Talk40 #28) played the whole game at shortstop and went 0-for-4.

Jabari Blash (Watch List) started in right field and went 0-for-2.

AAA -- Colorado Springs 4, Tacoma 1  -- Box

Erasmo Ramirez didn't lay waste to the Sky Sox, but he went six full innings on 88 pitches and  held his own at altitude: 6.0 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 5 K.

Josh Kinney, who's been on rehab assignment, has been unscored-upon during that time.  He went another 1.2 IP to keep his ERA at 0.00.

Stefen Romero (Talk40 #11) provided what offense there was: 2-for-4, double.

Short Season-A -- Tri-City 8, Everett 4 -- Box

Well, we knew the AquaSox wouldn't go undefeated.  They're now 4-1.

D.J. Peterson is still waiting to make his debut.

In his absence, the offense was carried by Carlton Tanabe, a catcher who, like many backstops in the organization, is already well traveled.  Tanabe homered and also had a single and a walk.

Looking Ahead

Brandon Maurer (Talk40 #9) is slated for Tacoma in Colorado Springs.  Roenis Elias (26intheMix) is set for Jackson.
