Mariners Minor League Game Action Recap for August 9
When the wind blows in Adelanto ... [is that a folk song?] ... more guys named Tyler ... etc.

High-A -- High Desert 30, Lancaster 8 -- Box

At the very bottom of the box score, it says "Wind: 26 mph, out to CF."

So you've got hot (86 degrees), dry ("Desert" part) air, at altitude (3,400 feet; "High" part), and a 26-mph wind blowing straight out.

Maybe Jordan Shipers (26intheMix) had one of the best pitching performances of the year:

5.0 IP, 3 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 2 K

Only three hits, and "only" two home runs.

And take all the offensive stats in that context:

Whew!

AAA -- Albuquerque 6, Tacoma 1  -- Box

Hector Noesi struck out seven, but gave up five earned runs in 5.0 IP.

Rich Poythress (26intheMix) keeps fighting to keep his career viable: his 14th homer plus a double.

Ty Kelly had four singles.

AA -- Mississippi 11, Jackson 2  -- Box

A rare bad outing for the Gooner, as Tyler Burgoon (26intheMix) gave up six earned runs in just 0.2 IP.

And the offense was held in check, although Chris Taylor (Talk40 #28) had a triple (his 11th overall).

Low-A -- Quad Cities 7, Clinton 3 -- Box

Ketel Marte (26intheMix) Mind-Blowing Hit Streak Watch:

Hits = 2 (single, double)

Strikeouts = 1

So that's 29 hits in 11 games (including 4 doubles, 2 triples), with four strikeouts.

Timmy Lopes (Talk40 #20) had a triple and a single.

Short Season-A -- Salem-Keizer 4, Everett 1 -- Box

Thyago ("Brazilian for Tyler") Viera had an ineffective outing: 4.1 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 5 BB, 3 K.

Once again, he was relieved by Tyler ("American for Tyler") Olson: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K.

Catcher Carlton Tanabe had a double and a single.

Rookie -- Pulaski 5, Princeton 4 -- Box

Two of the hottest pitchers went for Pulaski:

Edwin Diaz (Talk40 #36): 4.0 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 K.

Emilio Pagan (11th save): 1.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 K.

The offensive star was another Tyler: Tyler Smith, who tripled and homered and was instrumental in both of Pulaski's big innings.

Looking Ahead

Happy Taijuan Day!  Taijuan Walker (Talk40 #2) for Tacoma

Also Happy Roenis Day!  Roenis Elias (26intheMix) for Jackson, as part of a scheduled double-header.

AAA Tacoma: Batting v RHP (only). Carlos Peguero=.288-.353-.511 15 doubles/2 triples/14 homers in 274 AB's. 36/123 BB/K
Get this: Nate Tenbrink v RHP (only). .275-.388-.473 16 doubles/4 triples/10 homers in 273 AB's 49/76 BB/K
Tenbrink is NEARLY Pegs (without the K's) vs. righties. AND.....AND.....he's started at every position except C and P. He's ISO'ing 200!
Give the guy the call up. What are we doing with Ryan for any longer? Or Chavez?
He is exactly the kind of guy that good teams keep around. Find out what he's got.
BTW: S. Romero, another versatile guy (but not quite as versatile) has vR splits of .303-.338-.466 w/22-3-5 in 264 AB's.
Hey, I like Romero a lot! We'll see him in Sept. But gimme Tenbrink right now.
C'mon Z! Tenbrink. Give him a shot!
