Mariners Minor League Game Action Recap for August 23
Abe's awesomely alliterative August (in AAA!) does not abate ... Kiv's August is awesome too, just not alliterative ... etc.

AAA -- Tucson 13, Tacoma 6  -- Box

The Padres raced out to a big lead by teeing off on Andrew Carraway (Watch List) (4.2 IP, 11 H, 9 ER).

On the other hand, the awesomeness of Abe continued.  Abraham Almonte (26intheMix): double, single, walk, 3 RBI.

Awesome Abe! in August:

22 G | 104 PA | 27 H | 5 doubles, 1 triple, 4 HR | 21 BB | 14 K

.329/.466/.561

Power. Speed. Patience. Low K%.  Gotta love it.

Let's find him a spot on the 40-man and see what he can do in Seattle in September, all right?

AA -- Chattanooga 3, Jackson 2 [10 innings] -- Box

The Generals didn't get much offense, but they did get ... Blash Splash 22!

Jabari Blash (Watch List) got his sixth for Jackson after 16 in High Desert.

Believe it or not, his ISO is higher in the Southern League than it was in California.  Can he figure out how to make that raw power work in the majors?  Let's just say I'm less skeptical than I used to be.

Ramon Morla had two doubles and a single.

High-A -- Inland Empire 9, High Desert 1 -- Box

The 66ers got their 66th win by beating up on the Maverick staff.

And Patrick Kivlehan (Talk40 #33) hit streak ended after 25 games (0-for-4).  It dated back to July 25.

He had 45 hits in 25 games and his line was .437/.487/.738.

The other hit-streak-y guy, Ketel Marte (26intheMix), had two more singles.

Low-A -- Wisconsin 1, Clinton 0 -- Box

What's Your Vector, Victor?  On course, as usual: 6.0 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 5 K for Victor Sanchez (Talk40 #12).

But he couldn't win the pitchers' duel.  Dario Pizzano (26intheMix) tried to help with a double and two walks, but he couldn't get across the plate.

Short Season-A -- Everett 3, Vancouver 2 -- Box

Meanwhile, the Dutch Master! was also spinning some art from the mound: 5.0 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 7 K for Lars Huijer.

He prevailed in his pitchers' duel thanks to some Austin Power! from Austin Wilson.  It was his fourth home run in his last eight games.  Wilson also had a walk that contributed to the winning walk-off rally in the 9th.

Rookie -- Pulaski 3, Elizabethton 2 [11 innings] -- Box

The P-M's prevailed in the 11th on a single from Gabrial Franca (Talk40 #30), who had two walks earlier.

Jeffrey Zimmerman had three hits and two RBI.

AZL Rookie -- Indians 6, Mariners 2 -- Box

A strong rehab outing for Dylan "Sharkie" Unsworth (26intheMix) against the kids: 3.0 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 6 K.

Of course, some of the "kids" are older than Sharkie (who's 20).

But the youthful Tribe ran away with four runs in the top of the 9th.

Looking Ahead

Tyler Pike (Talk40 #14) is slated for Clinton.
