Huskies roundup

Looks like success on the diamonds of Montlake are contagious, with the softball program ranked no. 11 in the country and the baseball program ranked as high as no. 14 in national polls.

Lindsey Meggs' men are ranked inthe top 25 of three national polls, with Collegiate News ranking them number 14. They're now tied with Utah for first in the Pac-12 with an 11-7 record in conference play and 25-15 overall. The Diamoand Dawgs are heating up at just the right time, just like last season when they made an appearance in the NCAA regionals for the first time in years.

They have managed to climb the ranks via consistency and finishing games. Closer Troy Rallings has notched a save in his last seven appearances and is on the shortlist for a couple national awards this year. Furthermore, or their 11 series played this year, the Huskies have won nine.

This weekend they travel to SoCal to take on the USC Trojans, who sport an overall record of 20-22. Although USC leads the all times series between the schools, UW has swept the Trojans the last two times they have faced each other.

The baseball squad have spurred their success via the guys on the mound mostly, with their bullpen registering a microscopic 1.50 ERA in April. The aforementioned Rallings is tied for second in the country with 14 saves and leads the nation in ERA, sporting a mark of 0.68.

For the softball team, they have a huge weekend series coming up with a strong out of conference opponent. The Huskies travel down to the Bayou to face the No. 13 LSU Tigers. They won their last series hosting Utah in Montlake, shutting them out the first two games before falling victim to a late rally, killing the hopes for a sweep.

Men's basketball also made some news this week, hiring a new assistant coach in Michael Porter Sr. Porter Sr.'s hire is significant as one of his sons Jontay, a 6-foot-8 center our of Missouri, is verbally committed to Washington's 2018 recruiting class. Although Jontay isn't the only talent in the Porter bloodline, Michael Porter Jr. a 6-9 215-pound forward is the second-ranked recruit in the country. The Junior Porter is considering Washington, as well as Duke, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Stanford, Syracuse and UCLA; quite the impressive list.

The entire Porter clan plans to move to the Seattle area, where the prep hoopers will finish high school, no word yet on what school they'll be attending. UW should have the inside track on signing Porter Jr. as Romar is his godfather.
