As we head into the last day of non-sports activity. I think I read that this week contains the only 3 days of the year in which there's really no pro sports activity going on. That must presume that an NFL week counts as a sports week, or do they play hockey during that little period after the NBA's done and MLB hasn't started? :: shrug ::

In an MLB chat transcript, Jeffrey Todd brought up several players nobody has talked about, and said this about Jacob DeGrom:
I think I expect him to be moved more than most anyone else. He's throwing better than anyone and there are just two years of control left. Def don't think they have to do it, but it's a heck of an opportunity to do so with nothing approaching a high-end rental arm available.
So ... I might be at like 33%. Feel like the way he's treated elsewhere folks want to put really long odds. I think they're better.

So compare this situation to Machado. They can sit back and see if any teams really start coming hard for those guys. If not, no worries. But they should be open to considering it.

But of course Zach Britton is the bigger piece to look at, now that Machado's gone. Todd goes on to opine that Mike Moustakas can be had reasonably, which matches up with what Johns has said about the M's wanting to add an OF with thump (due to Heredia's woes).

Total silence. They have to be eyeing significant moves and also preparing for some targeted strikes if that doesn't work. OF/1B bat and SP seem like clear targets to me.

Just a few names off the beaten track for once. As usual, the "popular" SP targets on the market are Happ, Eovaldi, Hamels, Archer, Ross, Fulmer, and Bumgarner. Now Skaggs and Heaney are rumored.
