Golden State Pursuit of THE Record
Along with ties to Seattle sports

Tonight the Golden State Warriors will try ands break the NBA all-time record for the best season ever in the sport...well at least men's basketball.

The current record is held by the Michael Jordan Bulls 95-96 team that ended their regular season with a 72-10 record. The Warriors have tied this at worst, but can stand alone with a win tonight.

The next step will be a pursuit of a championship. Something the Bulls made good on in 96.

You may have recalled this season in Seattle...as it was the year the Bulls beat the Super Sonics for the title. Ironically, it was the same year that the Sonics earned their best franchise record  at 64-18. The year that should have been for Seattle sport, and probably would have been if not for the dynamic Bulls's team.

A Bull's team filled with stars. Not only Jordan, but Pippen and Rodman. Several role players too including three point specialist Toni Kukoc and Steve Kerr. Yes...that Steve Kerr, you know, the one who is now head coach of the Warriors that are going for the record.

Another ironic tie in to the eventbthatbwill take place tonight as Kerr coaches tgebteam that is trying to break a record he helped make with the Bulls 2 decades ago.

The reason I mention the record directly related to men's basketball is because women's basketball actually holds a more impressive one. That record was a 90 percent winning rate by the 1998 Houston Comets who ended their regular season 27-3.

Even the Seattle Storm have had a season near that of the Warriors percentage wise. In 2010... The same year the Storm won the title, they finished the regular season with a 28-6 record. That equates to a .824 winning percentage.

In comparison, a win tonight for the Warriors would put their winning percentage at .890.

In all the cases mentioned above, the team with the best record went onto win the title. Well all but our unlucky 96 Sonic's team, who just so happened to draw the Bulls during their record breaking season.

That will be a distant thought for Golden State, howeber, as they will focus all their attention and energy on being the team with THE record. In about 13 hours we will know if they made good on that mark...

And Seattle can now know what role they have played in that very record.
