FOOTBALL VERSION OF ROCKY II (if Rocky had needed one more count, causing a draw)
Dr. D's stream of consciousness (non-)thoughts on the Seahawk game, which you amigos (and jschario - see his report in the football area) can improve with little or no effort:
1) Have never been more proud of a single defensive effort. Pete Carroll also at halftime was seen jumping around high-fiving his attack dogs. Remember Buddy Ryan leaving the Bears and telling his men through tears "You guys are my heroes!" ? How many plays did they defend, like 90? I never really believed in a Seahawk defense the way I believe in this one. Which is saying kinda much.
1b) Who or what was that new #92 widebody? Jarran Reed's brother from another mother? Looked like an important add from here.
1c) Did it look to you like Frank Clark leaped a plateau? Yowch! if he did.
2) That was like watching the Seahawks' defense and special teams play a game under the penalty of getting no offensive snaps. Or, if you like, Seahawk D + ST with the Johnny Knoxville All-Stars having to play offense - against the St. Louis* Cardinals. ?? ... Tie game. ?!
3) Carson Palmer looked nothing like the Palmer of last year to me. Wow. I don' sweat the Cards this year. Not if Palmer is going to play like that.
4) If you guys have the slightest idea what Tom Cable is going to do this week, trying to fix the leaks in the hull while out at sea away from dry dock, please advise. Seriously. That, and who #92 was.
5) Not sure I've ever seen an NFL game that looked more like the home squad built their stadium on an ancient burial ground. This was the one-particular-game's worth of the 2014-15 49er offseason that put them where they are now, which is where they so richly deserve to be.
6) As always, Dr. D gleefully flings his noodlings out before he reads anything else post-game. Even worse, he merely watches select football games (those played by the Seahawks). So if this is all unspeakably naive ... dial 1-800-[(10x)(13i)^3]-[sin(xy)/3.14159]. Or simply hop over to Breitbart.com.

ZACK COZART
I hadn't been aware that the Mariners came this close to dealing for him this July. Guess I missed the memo.
Also loved, loved, loved this little comment, from Angelsfan31, in the user thread:
.
I don’t trust Dipoto with these types of deals. He almost always overpays which is great news if you’re a Reds fan.
.
Dr. D also would pay $1.25 on the dollar for any trade involving minor leaguers going out for quality major leaguers in return. Angelsfan31 missed his own memo, that being the manner in which the 1951-1964 Yankees won pennants: by trading hyped minor leaguers for quality players from teams under .500.
Didn't say we would pay $2.50 on the dollar. But you had better believe SSI would throw in an extra Daniel Missaki to close escrow on a player who would swing games in the AL West. Angelsfan31 brought Dr. D to the sudden realization that there are two people in the world who are ahead of the curve on this concept, and one of them currently runs the Mariners.
Don' come back until you have your men, JeDi.

Here is a Cozart article from Fangraphs crediting an inside-out swing for Cozart's two-year ability to drive the ball. It is from July, when it was dubious about Cozart's ability to continue to slug .400-and-plenty, but declares Cozart a "borderline All-Star" if he could keep it up.
Cozart was injured in the second half and slugged .312 in a few games, but Jerry Dipoto has banged the gavel down and declared the ISO to be valid. Here is one more article declaring the proposed deal to be Luis Gohara and ? for Cozart. That sounds more like $1.30 on the dollar :- ) but hey. Make sure you are happy with the house you buy, and you'll never regret paying a bit more when you got it. And Luis Gohara, while tantalizing, is not to be confused with Taijuan, Marte and O'Neill for an impact player.
