Brandon Wins Again
At least they needed overtime to do it again

It would seem that the Brandon Wheat Kings are bound and determined to beat the Seattle Thunderbirds, but perhaps they can only do it if the games are sure to go into overtime. On Saturday at Westman Place in Game 2 of the WHL Championship, the Wheat Kings beat the Birds once again with a score of 3-2… again.

During the first period, there was no scoring. Penalties were had on Hawryluk and Brn for goaltender interference and between Hauf and Sea for slashing. During the second period, Donovan Neuls made the first goal of the night with assist from Scott Eansor and Ryan Gropp. Brandon scored next when Patrick took a shot assisted by Provorov. Penalties were issued between Kaspick and Brn for goaltender interference, Thomson and Brn for roughing, Leth and Sea for roughing, Ottenbreit and Sea  for interference, and Coulter and Brn for roughing.

During the third period, Ethan Bear scored a shot assisted by Smith and Barzal. Coulter scored another for Brandon next, assisted by Patrick and Hawryluk. Penalties were issued between Eansor and Sea for tripping, Hauf and Sea for delaying the game, Patrick and Brn for interference, Wheaton and Brn for cross checking, and Hauf and Sea for tripping. Brandon scored again during overtime when Hawryluk made a shot assisted by Coulter. No penalties were issued during overtime.

Fans are pretty miffed about the rulings made by refs during the game, just as they did during the first game. They are saying that the Birds outplayed the Kings and goals were even “stolen,” such as one near-goal by Kolesar during game 2. Fans are letting the young men of the Thunderbirds know that they are fully behind them with support and confidence. They are ready to win, just as they are sure to fill the ShoWare Center on May 10 for the next game.

The rest of the games are scheduled as follows. Tickets remain on sale for game 4 at the ShoWare Center. Ticket for Game 3 are sold out.
