Birds Lose to Hawks
Portland wins, 2-1

Well, the winning streak was fun while it lasted, Birds fans. The Seattle Thunderbirds lost another game to the Portland Winterhawks this week. The loss came just after two big wins, one of which was a shutout with Logan Flodell at the goalie helm. In fact, the Hawks barely squeaked by with the win, which was 2-1. It was a tense and intense game with a lot of penalties and tension, but not as much scoring.

Nobody scored at all during the first period of the game. Penalties were had between Turgeon and Po for slashing and Sea and True for interference. During the second period, Turner Ottenbreit received a major penalty for chucking to the head, and Portland used the opportunity presented by the five minutes to score a shot. Although Rihards Bukarts’ shot hit one of the T-Bird defensemen, it still landed in the goal behind Bow. Assists were made by Jack Dougherty and Alex Schoenborn.

The second period was riddled with penalties. Some included tripping between DeJong and Por, too many men-served by Holowko on Bench and Sea, roughing, major-checking to the head, game misconduct on Ottenbreit and Sea (the one that resulted in Portland’s first goal of the night), major fighting on Jones and Por, major fighting between Barzal and Sea, roughing between Heinrich and Por, unsportsmanlike conduct between Hauf and Sea, roughing between Glass and Poor, and roughing between Hill and Por.

During the third period, the Hawks scored another goal, making the score 2-0. Rodrigo Abols scored while Schoenborn made his second assist of the night. Donovan Neuls made Seattle’s only goal during the third period with a power play assisted by Scott Eansor. Overall, Bow saved 29 shots out of 31 for the night. His record is now 16-19-4-0. Fewer penalties were had during the third period. They included delaying the game between MacEachern and Por and cross-checking between Barzal and Sea. Refs for the night were Mike Campbell and Brett Iverson.

The Birds will be playing the Everett Silvertips on Saturday night. The puck drops at 7:05. The game will be at the ShoWare Center. If you can make it, come on down and cheer the Birds on—they will need it on a night like this against the current number one team in the league! Tickets are still available, and you can also root for the Birds from home while you watch or listen online.
