Academy is Undefeated
Seattle Sounders FC Academy is on a roll

All four Seattle Sounders FC Academy teams are on a roll lately. Perhaps their winning luck will rub off on the Sounders themselves this weekend and break their losing streak. So far, the teams have a combined eight wins and one draw for a total of nine excellent games played very well during this season. The teams are unbeaten so far and if they keep it up, many of them will end up becoming Homegrown Players someday and play for the Sounders FC MLS team.

The U-14 and U-15 sides are doing the best so far, with five wins in five matches, while the older Academy players have had three wins and a draw. For all of the match results, click here. U-16 Head Coach Sean Henderson had nothing but praise to give the kids, saying, “The group has really come together in the second half of the season. Before we were playing well but not necessarily getting the results. Now that we have had more time to work with the group and help each player learn their individual roles, we are starting see more goals and positive results.”

That sounds like some excellent development among the players—the kind we definitely hope to see among the pros soon. The next big event for the Academy is the Premier Division of the Generation Adidas Cup in Texas. Be sure to follow the Academy on Facebook to keep up with the latest team updates, photos, game information and more. You can also view the teams’ schedules here to keep up with when they will be playing next. Just as with the pro team, the Academy relies on fan support to keep them encouraged.

Do you follow the Sounders FC Academy? Do you think it’s a worthwhile program that develops some serious talent? If you live near Tukwila, Washington, you may already know that the team is always looking for homestay families to sponsor players. It gives players a place to stay while they train without having to be away from a home environment. They need room and board as well as activities, transportation and support while they attend school in the area and attend practice. If you are interested in hosting a future Sounder, be sure to apply to become a host family. If you want to find out more about the opportunity, be sure to send an email to AcademyHomestay@SeattleFC.com.
