Gotta love the teddy bear toss!
Looking for something fun to do this weekend? How about a worthy cause to support with your family and friends? You can do both at a Seattle Thunderbirds game on January 23rd. This Saturday, the Birds will be taking on the Portland Winterhawks at the ShoWare Center, which is always a great game to see. But even better than that is the fact that it’s the annual Teddy Bear Toss.
This year’s 2016 Fred Meyer Teddy Bear Toss is presented by WARM 106.9. Fans bring in stuffed animals to throw on the ice and after they are collected, they will be given to the Seattle fire department and police department in order to be distributed to children in times of crisis. Fans are encouraged to bring as many stuffed animals as they wish to donate as long as they are clean and new for the kids.
Want to give a donation to the Children’s Hospital as well? Fred Meyer will be selling bears at the game for $5. Every purchase will go back to Children’s Hospital. So you can donate your stuffed animals, then buy new ones and support two different causes while you attend the game. Remember to wait to throw your bears, bunnies and other stuffed critters on the ice until you are given the go signal after the T-Birds make their first goal of the game!

Be sure to catch the Birds as they battle the Portland Winterhawks in yet another game prior to the Teddy Bear Toss on Friday night. The game will take place at Portland but you can watch or listen online. Are you a season ticket holder? Remember that you can get post-game autographs on January 31 after the game against the Kelowna Rockets when you present your ticket outside the Hockey Store. The team reminds ticket holders that they need to only receive an autograph per player and refrain from duplicates to keep the line flowing quickly. Keep in mind that Beginners Fest, for children ages 5 through 8, also takes place on January 31. Kids who attend get a tour of the players’ locker rooms as well as the chance to scrimmage on the ice.
