Forget Griffey! Look to West Tenn.

It seems there is some "kickback" against whoever spilled the beans about Griffey's "nap" the other day.  But I'm with those that think that if two "young" players are willing to tell this tale then perhaps Jrs. "leadership" isn't all that it is made to be this year.  Even if the "kickback" comes from other veteran players, and I suspect some of it must, it does indicate that Griffeys contributions to the team....and "buy in" are under question.

A question I've had:  Were Beltre and Washburn that much better veteran leaders than Figgins and Lee or has there been another presence (or lack of presence) in the locker room this year that has changed the feel-good dynamic?

But, That is not really what I'm writing about.

Two guys in the West Tennessee lineup show great promise, at least to my eye.

Dustin Ackley is hitting only .186 but he is walking .150Holy snot!  He'll start hitting, by all accounts, but walks don't slump.  As promised, this guy looks to be a .380-.400 range OBP guy.   Get him to Tacoma....and to Safeco, all in this year.  He's fielding at 2B right now at a .963 clip with a range factor of 4.63.  Figgy does it this year at .986 and 4.33.  I think I like him in LF, opening day next year.  Heck, I'm not sure I don't like him at DH in about two months.

Carlos Peguero continues to show terrific growth and is ripping the cover off the ball.  Right now he's at .342-.430-.684!  He has 11 homers in 131 PA's.  Last year in the High Desert he hit 31 taters and 14 triples!  HIs OPS over the last 4 seasons has gone .779-.797-.895-.1.151!  Gotta love that trend!

Stuff you already know, I'm sure.  But good stuff all the same.
