SSI Scorecard - Seahawks 23, Bears 20 (2)

Myth:  Talented defenses can be undercut if their coordinators are getting outsmarted, but this probably won't happen in Seattle.

SNOPES.com:  SSI was more impressed with the defensive play calling than anything else on the field, other than Russell Okung.

The TV guys pointed out several times that Da Bears' line was being left without TE pass protection, and the Seahawks gleefully lined up DB's at very sharp angles to get to Cutler before he could even plant his back foot.

For a coupla plays, I closed my eyes and pretended I was watching Buddy Ryan call plays :- )

.

Myth:  It's possible (30%, 40% chance) that Carroll will become one of the NFL's best coaches.

SNOPES.com:  Jury out, but we're guessing that THIS week we won't get a lot of arguing...

Funny thing.  We talked to a football fantasy champ tonight about Carroll.  How come he didn't succeed last time around, we ax?

What do you mean, Champ says.  He was .500.  So was Belichick in his first go round.  (LOL, if you caught our Saturday shtick.)

So Carroll learned that much at USC, we ax?

Nah, Champ says.  He had GM's who wouldn't give him the guys he wanted.  Half of coaching is the GM.  In Seattle he can go get his own guys.

.

Myth:  Hasselbeck is way off his own standards, but he ain't Rick Mirer.  Don't sell his positives too short.

SNOPES.com:  Hass crawled out of the coffin Sunday, din't he?  Amazing what a left tackle, and a punishing running game, can do for an "aging" quarterback.

We only get half credit on this one, marking Hasselbeck higher than others, but we had no idea he could still look as good as this.

..................

We remember a 3rd-and-6 ..... Seahawks clinging to a 14-10 lead, the 30-yard line, about halfway through the 2nd quarter.

Da Bears brought everybody and the popcorn vendor up to the line.  We remember thinking, if this were Dave Krieg, I'd give you odds-on a fumble.  But with Hass, this is no sweat.  No sweat at all.

Hass took the shotgun and leisurely tossed the ball over to Mike Williams, slanting left.  First down.

And we thought, there might be no quarterback in the NFL that you'd less want to rush 7 guys against, in the shotgun.

..................

Funny thing.  I'm enthused to see what Hass can do, with one more season, now that he's got Lynch and Okung.

.

Myth:  Seahawks maybe 2:1, 3:1 dogs in Chicago.

SNOPES.com:  Glad to get one wrong ;- )

We said,

In the 1st quarter, I'll be watching to see if the D can bully Chicago's offense, and if it does, will be hoping for a few turnovers / special teams plays to give us a shot.  Da Bears might be 3:1 faves, but I've got nothing against watching a 3:1 game.

The D did bully Chicago's offense, but the Seahawks won with ease ... despite zero takeaways!

The Seahawks played better than the Bears did ... deserved to win ... and did win.

The Cards and Rams can't be pleased to know that the Seahawks are even capable of this kind of a performance.

.

Myth:  Seahawks' offense not one you'd want to play a game of Strat-O with.

SNOPES.com:  Okay, two wrong.

Add Russell Okung and Marshawn Lynch -- that is, add pass protection and a punishing running game --

... to this club? ...  and, gentlemen, this offense is a completely different conversation than it was a week ago.

.

Long live king Carroll,

Dr D
