POTD Chris Capuano: Roto Killshot

Q.  Relative to the general consensus in Seattle, does the Mainframe like Chris Capuano (1) Less, (2) The Same, or (3) More?

A.  None of the above.

The Mainframe likes Chris Capuano (4) Much More --- > than does the rest of Seattle.

.

Q.  How much is that?

A.  Taking a "Shining" tour around the hotel cyberfloor on our plastic Big Wheel trike, we see that Capuano is perceived as

  • A low-risk, decent-return arm at best -OR- the mound version of Casey Kotchman at worst
  • A solid #4 starter
  • A back-end rotation guy you would buy because he's almost free, and LHP in Safeco
  • Not really too bad (sorry Spec !)

What Capuano actually is, it says here, is --- > a certified #3 starter in the big leagues.

Well, we're not saying he's going on Day Three for the Phillies or Yankees, of course.  But Capuano's 18-12, 3.99 season in 2005 was well within his normal capabilities.  He's the kind of guy you slot behind a Felix Hernandez and Erik Bedard (Michael Pineda) and hope for a 16-11, 4.10 season.  ... um, sorry, 3.78 in Safeco, Mr. Vargas.

To be fair, Prospect Insider's "solid #4 starter" tag is well within semantic run value ratios.  Good show, guys.  Breaking it, too.  :golfclap:

.

Q.  Hey, BaseballHQ's Forecaster is out!  :jubilation: What does Shandler say about Capuano?

A.  We'll be swatting you directly on the left eardrum with this rolled-up magazine all through January.  You know you love it.

You might as well order your own Forecaster - else I could sub the Pujols comment for the Cust comment and then where would you be?

Until it arrives .... The Bearded Prophet likes Capuano even more than does Dr. D.   Ron's thoughts, if not verbiage, on Capuano:

  • Is now 100% back from two TJ surgeries
  • 2010 2H performance is the key ...
  • ... during which Capuano demo'ed that he is all the way back to 2005-07
  • UP:  15 wins, sub-3.75 ERA

Proph-O-Vision translation:  Ride Capa all the way to your Yoo-Hoo shower in 2011.   ... Ron's tagline on Capuano is about as excited as he gets about a pitcher.

....................

The prototype stealth pitcher that BABVA has used to stomp illiterate roto competitors.  Grab you six or eight hitters early, grab you six or eight Chris Capuanos late, and sit around all year looking like a tree full of owls.

Seriously, Chris Capuano 2011 is the Post-It boy for Shandlerian roto titles.  Excellent pitcher in Call of Duty camo.  If you can get that club option for 2012, stick it in the back of the net there Jack.
