Healthy snacks: Hummus

I have an on again/off again relationship with hummus. Sometimes I love it, and sometimes I don't want anything to do with it. But ever since I went drastically low-carb, I have been looking for treats for that mid-afternoon pick-me-up. And hummus, that delicious Middle Eastern puree of chickpeas, sesame, lemon and garlic can really fit the bill.

Eight comfort foods for tax day

Tax Day is rapidly approaching. Have you already done your taxes? Or will you be joining the countless hordes of people who will sit down to their paperwork this weekend? Or are you perhaps a daredevil, someone who leaves their tax prep duties to the very end?

Even if you customarily get a refund, April 15th still serves as a reminder of just how much of your money gets pulled out of your wallet and poured into the gaping maw of the government. It's as good a time to indulge in comfort food as any.

Going with the flow

Sometimes while traveling, certain things happen that don’t exactly fall in line with the day’s plan. In fact, most of the time, the day’s “plan” normally deviates before it even starts. Regardless, not all aspects of travel seem to work out how we envision them, but that doesn't mean the day has to be a failure. Sometimes you just need to open your eyes and realize the possible mishaps are just opportunities to see something new.

Weird celebrity diets

For some reason, we as a culture are obsessed with celebrity diets. The main problem with trying to follow these diets as a civilian is that celebrities are able to A) hire personal trainers to work with them for hours a day, and B) have nothing better to do than spend all day working out and not eating.

And not to put too fine a point on it, but just because someone is famous, that doesn't mean that they make good life choices. Frankly, a lot of celebrities are idiots, and the lengths they will go to in order to lose a few pounds is truly mind-boggling.
