Fantasy’s not for chicks

I’ve loved fantasy all my life. I grew up on movies like Wizard of Oz, The Neverending Story, Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal. I read everything from Harry Potter to Lord of the Rings, and I’m still finding new series in which to immerse myself. I love it, and the Internet allows me to connect with my fandom fanaticism like never before through memes, crafts, recipes and other fun stuff.

All about parsley

For a lot of people, parsley is just a garnish. That weird little frilly green thing you leave behind on your plate at the restaurant. Others know parsley as a dull and boring dried spice which seems to have no Earthly use.

This is a real shame, because not only is parsley delicious, it is also ridiculously good for you. This vibrant green herb will not only improve your meals, it will also improve your health!

Singles Guide to Cooking

I know that a lot of people think that cooking for a single person must be a sad chore to do. Images of microwavable frozen dinner bachelor meals (or bachelor chow as they call it on Futurama) for the guys, and cat food for the desperate single ladies (who have a ton of it... for the cats), but cooking for one can be an awesome adventure and can give you some great skills for later in life - perhaps even your coupled life. It is also an excellent way to save some money for the future!

Tasty Tuesday: Strawberry Lemonade Bites

These strawberry lemonade bites sound pretty amazing! If you have some lemons, condensed milk, graham crackers, strawberries, eggs (or Egg Beaters, per the recipe), gelatin and brown sugar, you are good to go with this. But seriously, they look so good that they’re probably worth the trip to get these ingredients.

One of my beloved English teachers has been sharing a bunch of scrumptious recipes on Facebook, and I thought I’d pass them along. Thanks, Mrs. H!

It's cucumber season!

My gardening friends are starting to exclaim over their cucumber harvest, which is still in its earliest stages. Over the next month or so, cucumbers are set to start exploding all over the country. If you have only ever had supermarket cucumbers, then you owe it to yourself to find a nearby farmer's market and sample some of the dazzling variety of cucumbers that exist in the world. Lemon cucumbers are my favorite, but really I like just about any cucumber.

Inspired by fiction to cook

Have you ever been watching a movie or reading a book, and been so smitten by a dish that you had to cook it yourself? Slate contributor J. Bryan Lowdor had that experience while watching a movie called Babette. It moved him to cook a ridiculously complicated and fancy French meal for his friends, which turned out quite well. More power to him, really! My own experiences in this regard have been… mixed.
