Review: The White Queen ‘The King is Dead’

Last time around, we saw the death of dear brother George and the destruction of yet one more threat against the crown.  Margaret may still be plotting, but there are about five bodies between her little Henry and the throne, so it’s looking unlikely.  This week, Margaret gets a wee bit closer to achieving her ambitions while things pretty much fall apart for everyone else.

Review: The White Queen ‘Poison and Malmsey Wine’

Last time around on The White Queen, things looked to be getting better, at least for a time.  Edward had no true enemies left to worry about, Anne and Richard got together and made themselves a nice little family and only Margaret has any designs on the throne anymore, but she happens to be cozying up to Elizabeth.  This week, we see a bit of betrayal and allies where we least expect them.

Review: The White Queen ‘Love and Marriage’

Last time on The White Queen, we saw Edward and his allies finally get everything settled down a bit.  He had a firm hold on the throne, the French factions were dead and/or captured and Warwick is gone for good.  Only crazy Margaret and little Henry have any hope of causing trouble, and not until he grows up a little more.  So will Elizabeth and Edward finally have peace?  Well, with five more episodes to go, it’s not bloody likely.

Review: The White Queen ‘War at First Hand’

When last we left off, things didn’t look so good for Elizabeth and Edward.  Even though there was now a male heir to the throne, Edward’s army was on the run and old, crazy King Henry was back on the throne.  Warwick, of course, was behind it all, being that all he wants is power and doesn’t care who gives it to him.  And Margaret was happy that her little Henry was now so important.  Of course, this show tends to flip and flop with each episode, so it’s not long before everything turns about again.

Review: The White Queen ‘The Bad Queen’

This week on The White Queen, things take quite a turn.  Warwick and his faction may be stuck in France, but he’s also working hard to gather an army so he can return to England and finish what he started.  Unfortunately, the only way to do that is to convince the wife of former King Henry, Margaret of Anjou, to help him.  So instead of George becoming king, it looks like they’ll be returning the very man they overthrew back to the throne.

Review: The White Queen ‘The Storm’

Last time on The White Queen, things weren’t looking so good for Edward and Elizabeth.  The King was captured and had no male heir, Warwick making a play to put Edward’s brother George on the throne.  His Queen was losing family members and forced to hole up until things worked themselves out.  And crazy old Margaret Beaufort was still thinking she could weasel her own son onto the throne.

New DVD review: Danny Boyle's 'Trance'

Since I didn't see any movies in the theater over the weekend, I decided to catch up on some more new DVD releases. The one I was most excited to see was Danny Boyle's latest, the thriller Trance. This film boasts a nice cast (James McAvoy, Rosario Dawson and Vincent Cassel) and hey, it's Danny Boyle for goodness sake. I knew it would at least be a gorgeous film to watch.

Review: The White Queen ‘In Love With The King’

So I heard a few good things about the UK series, The White Queen and decided that I would, since there’s little else on television right now worth watching, give it a review.  After viewing the first episode, I’m not sure how far I’m going to get with this one, but I will put in every effort to finish the 10 episode run.  While the premise is interesting - the ascension of England’s Edward IV during the late 15th century - the result is shaping up to be more of an historically based soap opera.

What are you reading?

Yesterday I picked out a huge armful of books at the library. This is the danger of arriving early to a program, folks! We were there for Ms. M’s wonderful songs, storytelling, crafts and even a visit from Z the therapy dog, but since we arrived early I had time to browse. So I brought home an armload of books. Here are these books plus the two I’m already reading from an interlibrary loan; what parenting books (or other books, for that matter) are you reading right now?
