Rocky Mountain Gray Wolf population drops after release endangered list

When an animal is taken off the endangered species list because its population has risen to a healthy level, it’s considered a win for the environment. It shows that conservation methods are working and that the system actually work. What happens do those animals once the protection is lifted?

The Rocky Mountain Gray Wolf is present in several states, including Montana, Wyoming and Ohio. The populations had grown so much that the animals were taken off the endangered species list in 2012. This meant that the individual states could now decree that they animals could be hunted.

Debating the merits of fake crab

Fake crab meat has a bad name, and you can kind of see why. Any time you're selling one kind of food which has been colored, flavored and re-textured to seem like another, you're on shaky ground. (I'm thinking of those cracker snack packs, with the salty orange substance in the little tub, and the red plastic stick for spreading it. The package euphemistically describes it as "Cheez.")

But hey, have you seen the price of crab lately?

Spiders ensnare and hunt bats: The stuff nightmares are made of

As if spiders weren't scary enough, I have just found out that some of them are large enough to ensnare and feed on bats. Folks, this is the stuff nightmares are made of – at least my nightmares. A scientific paper in PLOS ONE reports that more than 50 incidences of bat predation by spiders have been recorded on every continent except Antarctica. Sometimes the bats got tangled up in the webs and died of reasons like starvation and exhaustion.
